A selection experiment
MonkeyDo
Random changes. Kept only when the whole page is closer. Nothing in the opening is locked.
The old claim is that a troop of monkeys will never type Shakespeare, because the whole page would have to appear at once. That is not how a selector works. Each monkey makes one small change. The page that needs fewer edits to become the goal is the one kept. A matching opening is not protected. It stays only when changing it would make the page farther away.
One change
A new word, a single letter, a swap, or a deletion.
Then a choice
Only the copy whose alignment score is closer to the goal is kept.
The whole page
Closeness is Needleman–Wunsch alignment, from 1970. It counts how many edits the page still needs. The beginning is not locked.
The room
1 of 5 desks in use
No account. Closing the tab gives the desk back. Five people can run this at once.
